It’s a miserable damp morning. The plan is to go round to Newtown, so we’ve plenty of time for the tide. We eventually lose patience with the weather about 13:00 and it soon dries up thereafter. We keep the reef for simplicity and beat down on the last of the ebb tide. We’re half an hour late, so the last mile is a little slow, but it’s turned into a lovely afternoon. We meet T.S. Lord Nelson going the other way.

There are a couple of boats at anchor and a couple more on moorings. We pick up a mooring, without much trouble and settle in. Just before sunset I remember to retract the bowsprit to avoid the mooring line rubbing on the bobstay, right beside our heads. A lesson learned from our first ever night on board, before we even left West Mersea.
