Cowes dawns brightly again. The Cowes-Torquay powerboat race is this morning, with a 09:30 start. We plan to be well away before that, as they will block the harbour entrance for a while. Once out of the marina, there’s a good F5 Westerly blowing. With the flood tide running we decide on the easy option and motor across the Solent. There’s a steady flow of powerboats and RIBs heading the other way, including a very small inshore RNLI lifeboat, that looks more likely to need than receive help in these conditions.

We’re pretty much packed up by the time we reach our mooring, with just the cover to go on. Hoppy and Christine turn up as we’re finishing, they’ve followed us back.

We’ve been experimenting with iPad navigation this weekend. The combination of waterproof case, coach roof mounting and wifi has worked well. It’s a much better experience than the handheld Garmin, although not all the data is coming through yet. We’ve had no problems with visibility, but battery life is a challenge. Anyway, it looks like the way to go for now.
